I went to the farmers market and found this restaurant. This is one of the best Indian buffet I had. The dishes are all delicious. I liked the goat curry, the chicken dumplings, eggplant, and Tandoori chicken. Their chai is also excellent. Beside the food, the waitresses were very friendly. Highly recommended
I've been to this restaurant's buffet many times, and overall, it's a great spot. The food consistently tastes great, and the service is excellent, with all the staff appearing attentive. The entire place, including the restrooms, is noticeably clean. At $16.99 (up from an initial $15), it's still a fantastic deal given the good variety of food options. Don't miss the Nepali hot-milk tea, available daily by the front desk (it's a bit hidden!). The restaurant offers both indoor and outdoor seating. A key difference to note is the weekday vs. weekend buffet. If you're craving Momo and Pani Puri, you'll need to visit on the weekends. On weekdays, these popular items aren't included. Also, expect some daily variations in the menu, particularly with the curries. On weekends, the Momo and Pani Puri station is located outside. I've visited three of their four branches (Hayward, San Ramon, and Sunnyvale), with San Jose being the only one I haven't tried. My personal favorites are the Hayward and San Ramon locations. Great location: Street parking is first come first served based but their a free public parking space a block away in Hayward. While generally positive, there are a few areas where they could improve: * Pani Puri consistency: I've noticed the taste of the pani puri can be inconsistent. * Plain yogurt availability: Plain yogurt isn't always offered on the buffet, though staff will bring it if you ask. It would be great to have it readily available, especially with the sweet desserts. * Staff tips: This is a significant point for me. I've spoken to staff at all three locations, and unfortunately, they don't receive tips directly from customers. When customers add a tip for their service, I strongly believe that money should go to the service staff.
I've been to a few Indian restaurants, but none are quite as good as this one. The flavors are amazing as they are unique. You must have a Nepal dumpling! The hostess is a sweetheart, encourages you to ask questions, and has a good sense of what people will like. Can't wait to try something else.
The Gurkha Kitchen is an absolute gem! The atmosphere is cozy and welcoming, and the staff go above and beyond to make you feel at home. Their buffet is fantastic—so many delicious options to choose from, all freshly prepared and full of authentic Nepali flavors. The MoMo, curries, and dal were my favorites, but honestly, every dish was packed with taste. You can really tell the care that goes into the cooking. Great value for the price, generous portions, and top-notch service. If you’re looking for authentic food and a wonderful dining experience, the Gurkha Kitchen buffet is a must-try. I’ll definitely be back again!
I recently ordered from Gurkha Kitchen via DoorDash and tried their chola, veg chow mein, and naan. The overall flavor of the dishes was quite good — the chola was well-spiced and comforting, and the chow mein had a nice stir-fried texture with fresh vegetables. However, the naan was a bit of a letdown. It arrived hard and quite chewy, which took away from the experience. I’m not sure if it was due to the delivery or the preparation itself, but it didn’t have the softness and fluffiness you’d expect. Despite the naan, the rest of the meal was enjoyable, and I’d consider ordering again — just might skip the naan next time or try it fresh at the restaurant instead of through delivery.
